Awareness
Newborn Screening
Emma's Foundation continues to raise awareness through pushing for newborn screening
in California. By signing up with Emma's Foundation, you can help the foundation
push for screening in Californina. By testing for MLD at birth, many children
will be given the opportunity to explore treatment options. It is far too
often that MLD is mis-diagnosed (
See Emma's Story) or the diagnosis comes too late.

Research
Hope for Demyelinating Diseases through OligodendrocyteTrial
Duke University is currently able to manufacture oligodenrocyte cells from a
donor or one's blood cells. These cells have the ability to help repair
some of the damage caused by MLD. These cells mature into myelin-forming
oligondendroglia and may assist in many demyelinating diseases.
The Duke FDA trials are expected to start soon yet. However, money is
needed for the first patients to go thorugh the trial. Each child that
participates will need $25,000 not covered by insurance. We encourage you to
participate in assisting Emma's foundation help this study and FDA trial.
Donations
will be sent directly to Duke Univeristy.
